Responsibilities • Directly manage a team of ICs (currently 5), setting goals, providing feedback, and fostering growth. • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to define priorities across search, recs, personalization, analytics, experimentation and DS platforms. • Represent DS perspectives in senior product and cross-functional forums. • Guide your team to deliver with rigor and impact by shaping processes, metrics, and experimentation practices. • Champion best practices in analytics and data science across ThredUp. • Oversee DS-owned infrastructure such as the experimentation platform (Abbacado) and data science pipelines. Requirements • 8+ years of leadership experience overseeing data science, analytics or comparable intelligence teams. • Proven experience managing data scientists, analysts, and ML engineers, with a track record of growing and developing talent. • Ability to define and drive technical and strategic roadmaps, balancing immediate delivery with long-term vision. • Strong collaborator with senior Product, Engineering, and business leaders. • Deep understanding of applied analytics, experimentation, and machine learning in product settings. • Excellent communication skills - able to simplify complex concepts, advocate for your team, and build shared understanding. • Strategic thinker with an innovative, entrepreneurial mindset who thrives on ambiguity. • Experience with large-scale personalization, search, or recommendation systems. Nice-to-haves • Prior ownership of experimentation platforms or DS infrastructure. • Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or consumer tech.
