Intern / Registered or Certified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor REMOTE DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE
Job Summary
Seeking Inter / Registered or Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor position provides the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and experience to work as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) Counselor in a supervised setting. Reporting to a supervisor or manager while under the supervision of a licensed or certified program management staff, the Registered SUDC will provide group, individual SUD counseling, SUD assessments, SUD education classes, and participant enrollment. Depending on experience can work remote using electronic file.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prior to conducting services without direct supervision, each registered SUDC shall observe at least three hours of face-to-face interviews, 12 hours of educational classes, and 20 hours of group counseling sessions that are conducted by a certified SUD Counselor
Registered SUDC shall
Facilitate and conduct SUD groups, education sessions and individual face-to-face sessions, for participants to reduce the negative impact of SUD.
Complete case management, including the maintenance of individual program participant files, attendance rosters, group and individual progress notes.
Monitor program participant payment history, completes and submits to management monthly arrears report.
Review files for compliance and submits files for completion or dismissal approval as needed / directed.
Conduct re-reinstatements, enrollments, transfers, and other program participant activities.
Direct disposition of sensitive or problematic program participant situations to appropriate Management
Attends weekly mandatory staff meetings/trainings.
Attends weekly progress review meetings with supervisor.
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent. Preferred candidate be enrolled in an Alcohol/Drug Studies Educational Program as required by the certifying agency
Certification/License:
Registered as AOD/SUD Counselor in the State of California, and in good standing with certifying agency
Experience:
Meet Title Nine hiring requirements for Registered SUD Counselor.
Desired ? Observed at least three hours of face-to-face interviews, completed 12 hours of educational classes, and 20 hours of group counseling sessions that are conducted by a certified counselor.
Previous paid/volunteer experience in a substance abuse setting, is acceptable,
Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of State and County DUI Program requirements, program policies and procedures
Knowledge of Federal and State confidentiality requirements
Knowledge of generally accepted principals of SUD treatment, education, and prevention in a group and individual setting
Ability to keep accurate, legible written records, including electronic record using Microsoft Access and other Microsoft Applications
Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively.
Ability to facilitate, gather and document participant?s insight on their involvement with substances.
Ability to promote program participant?s compliance and satisfaction with program requirements,
Deal effectively with a wide variety of program participant personalities, including hostility, resistance, and denial.
Knowledge of theory, research, and practice literature that examines the relationship of basic to the attainment of positive SUD treatment outcomes.
Preferred ? Knowledge of and experience of ASAM, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
