Remote Project Archivist at Yellowstone NP **Invitation only applicants will be accepted - The Great Basin Institute - Gardiner, MT - work from home job Company: The Great Basin Institute Job description: The Remote Project Archivist Research Associate will work cooperatively with Yellowstone National Park staff to support the Park’s museum and archives program. The primary role of the position is assisting in the processing, digitization and access of digital archival collections. The Remote Project Archivist will arrange, describe, preserve, and create access for electronic records and digital surrogates. Work may include implementing preventative preservation and fixity checks, developing and embedding metadata, and editing and preparing derivatives for public access and use. Specific Duties will include, but are not limited to: • Develop and implement processing plans. • Perform appraisal, arrangement, description, and digital preservation following professional standards, agency guidelines, and institutional best practices • Perform preservation and processing workflows including migration, creating checksums, and embedding metadata. • Liaise with media reformatting vendor(s) and coordinate selection, product receipt and approval, and quality control reviews. • Develop descriptive metadata using designated schemas and authority language. • Catalog collection in Interior Collection Management System (ICMS) and create descriptive, user-oriented finding aids for the archival collections. • Develop outreach related to the collections including social media posts, professional papers, public presentations and/or exhibit development. • Participate in team meetings, provide status updates, and project reports. Contract Timeline: • Part-time, flexible schedule. • Possibility of extension, depending upon performance and funding availability. Location: This is a remote position, limited to states in which the Great Basin Institute is set-up to conduct business. Compensation and Benefits: $23.12 an hour Job Qualifications: Required • Experience arranging and describing electronic records and legacy media materials. • Knowledge of archival digital asset management workflows, standards and best practices, and metadata schema for the administration of born digital records and digital surrogates; • Experience applying Describing Archives: a Content Standard (DACS) to cataloging and writing user-oriented finding aids; • Knowledge of digital preventative preservation techniques; • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; Preferred: • Experience with archival appraisal, identifying permanent records and applying records schedules; • Project management experience; • Experience working with students or volunteers; • Knowledge of Yellowstone National Park and its natural and cultural history. Successful applicant(s) must complete a Department of Interior (DOI) Background Investigation (BI) or submit paperwork to NPS human resources indicating an active and fully adjudicated BI has already been completed prior to beginning position.
