What you'll do We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead backend development initiatives within the ClarOps team. This role goes beyond coding: you’ll help shape technical direction, foster engineering best practices, and ensure the performance and scalability of backend systems that directly support Clara’s operational efficiency. You’ll also mentor junior developers, influence architecture decisions, and work cross-functionally to tackle some of Clara’s most impactful challenges. Your responsibilities will include: • Leading backend design and implementation for high-impact internal systems and services • Collaborating across the full product lifecycle—from ideation to deployment • Mentoring junior developers and upholding strong engineering standards • Writing scalable, testable code with unit and integration testing built in • Maintaining and evolving microservices within a modern architecture • Participating in cross-team problem-solving and architectural discussions • Producing clear documentation and conducting code reviews to ensure quality and consistency • Integrating with internal and external systems via REST and SOAP APIs Who you are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Must haves • 5+ years of backend development experience • Proficiency in Java (minimum version 8; ideally version 17) and Spring Boot 3 • Experience with Hibernate/JPA, and relational/NoSQL databases • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and event-driven systems using Kafka • Experience integrating with third-party providers via REST and SOAP APIs • Proficiency in Docker, Git, Github, and CI/CD pipelines • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS • Deep knowledge of software design principles and testing strategies • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban) • Advanced English proficiency, with the ability to lead technical discussions across geographies Nice to haves • Experience working with multi-country stakeholders and remote teams • Exposure to infrastructure and monitoring tooling within cloud-native environments • Interest in using AI tools to optimize internal operations Why join Clara At Clara, you’ll have the autonomy, speed, and support to make meaningful impact — not just on your team, but on how organizations are run across Latin America.
