Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, Oncology Product Development

Natera is currently seeking a Senior/Lead Bioinformatics Scientist to join the Bioinformatics team focused on Oncology Product Development. The individual will participate in the design and prototyping of cutting-edge algorithms for analysis of genetic data and the development and validation of ctDNA-based diagnostic tests, interacting closely with colleagues in our molecular biology and biostatistics teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics and data science, optimally with experience in NGS analysis of cancer tissue and/or variant calling. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and improve analysis pipelines for diagnostic tests, including detection of cancer-associated variants or methylation patterns and implementation of evidence-based quality control thresholds. • Leverage accurate statistical or probabilistic models to build the next round of algorithms and products. • Move products through the full development process, from research through commercial launch. • Help design and interpret molecular biology experiments. • Contribute to our intellectual property portfolio. • Drive rigorous data analysis efforts and support group efforts in the production of high-quality documentation. QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements: • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (bioinformatics, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar). • Minimum of 3-5 years of post-graduate experience in a data science and/or bioinformatics role. Desirable, but not required: • Prior experience with NGS analysis of cancer tissue and/or variant calling. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Experience using Python or R for scientific data analysis and visualization. • Strong foundation in statistical modeling/machine learning, including probability theory and estimation/classification methods. • Experience with analysis of next-generation sequencing data, preferably including algorithm development or optimization. • Proven ability to apply mathematical principles to solve real estimation problems and implement practical solutions. • Experience writing code in a production environment and using version control. • Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
