About the position Staples US Retail is on a journey to establish itself as the destination for working and learning. We are looking for an analytical self-starter to develop and execute a customer-centric growth strategy for Services, with specific ownership for driving the rapid growth of Recycling, iPostal 1, same day delivery partnerships such Instacart, Door Dash and Uber Eats, and identifying and bringing to market new businesses that have not been identified yet. The strategy needs to be inspired by deep customer insight / market trends, negotiation, financial planning, promotional and seasonal plans, marketing, vendor relations and execution. This role requires strong cross-functional partnership between several Staples Business Units (Store Operations, Portfolio, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and Digital teams), must be able to act with agility and be comfortable managing multiple priorities. As a Sr Category Merchant-Services at Staples you will work in partnership with senior leadership to develop strategies designed for in year opportunities as well as multi-year growth. This requires analytical/quantitative skills, attention to detail and strong written communication skills. This person will serve as the analytical lead conducting strategic and ad-hoc analysis intended to deep-dive into results to identify issues and make recommendations on how to drive improvement in KPIs. Responsibilities • Acquire a deep understanding of customer needs through research efforts, and field feedback. • Develop a realistic and effective business plan to achieve budgeted goals in sales, margin, and inventory. Execute that plan to deliver financial results. • Develop, execute, and effectively communicate strategy to the highest levels of the company. Ensure plans align with company strategic objectives and goals. • Effectively partner to drive strategy, growth and solve everyday opportunities for both the Stores and online channel (Staples.com) • Monitor ongoing performance for initiatives relative to financial goals; sales, margin, market share, traffic, conversion, average order value, NPS etc. • Reevaluate past initiatives to suggest improvements/best-practices. • Work closely with vendors, influence pricing, and create an appropriate customer experience. • Negotiate for lowest total delivered cost, volume incentives, rebates, advertising and other applicable allowances. • Effectively partner and influence other cross-functional partners, such as Store Operations, Portfolio, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and Digital teams. • Manage and develop one direct report. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree (MBA or equivalent preferred) • 6 to 8 years work experience in a project management. Nice-to-haves • Strong knowledge of store retail; Digital experience preferred. • Strong analytical abilities, including extracting, organizing & summarizing data and drawing key insights. • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task. • Strong attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and execute across multiple groups. • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel). • Good verbal and written communication skills. • Can do attitude and interest in driving improvement and change. • Experience influencing change across various levels of organizations (Managing 'up'). • Proven ability to manage complex projects with stakeholders from various functional areas.
